History of Grace Baptist Church

On Tuesday night, November 16, 1976 a meeting was held for the purpose of establishing an Independent Baptist Church.  Bro. Alan wilson expressed this burden and interest of the people to Bro. Charles Ashcraft, Pastor of the Grace Baptist Church, 9545 Winton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio.  On November 21, 1976, this burden was presented by Bro. Ashcraft to his church with the result being an unanimous vote to authorize and sponsor a mission in Russell Springs, Kentucky, by the Grace Baptist Church. 

On November 28, 1976, several people joined the Grace Baptist Mission by letter from Salem Baptist Church, (the persons who joined the mission became members of the sponsoring church, the Grace Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.)

On May 29, 1977, the mission voted to support missionaires Bro. James Love, who served in Mexico and Bro. Ed Scaffin in Japan.

On June 26, 1977 the Grace Baptist Mission purchased property on Dowell Road, where the church sits today, for the sum of $10,200.

The organization service of Grace Baptist Mission to Grace Baptist Church was on November 18, 1977 by accepting letters of membership from Grace Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ohio, plus new members that joined this day.  There were 43 charter members.

Several preachers from the Cincinnati area, as well as other areas were present for this service.  The service was conducted by Bro. Charles Ashcraft, pastor of the sponsoring Grace Baptist Church, with the intent of having Bro. Boyd Alan Wilson (wife Sister Floretta Carolyn Wilson) to pastor the church.

After securing a loan for $40,000 for 12 years, the church was constructed by church member Bro. Kenneth Hadley and crew.  The first service was held in Grace Baptist Church auditorium was June 11, 1978.

A dedication service was held on July 15, 1978.  The dedication service was preached by Bro. Charles Ashcraft, and the sermon was from Psalm 126:5-6.
